MARABANS SPECIALTY COFFEE

The term Specialty Coffee was first used in 1974 by Erna Knutsen in the Tea & Coffee Trade Journal. The term was used by the pioneer to describe the best tasting beans produced in special microclimates. We share the definition of specialty coffee by SCAE co-founder and first president Alf Kramer: "A specialty coffee is defined as an artisan quality of coffee - understood as a beverage - judged by a consumer in a limited market, who appreciates a unique and personalised quality and taste, different from other coffee beverages on offer. The beverage must be sourced from beans from a defined area with a crop that tends to achieve the best green coffee parameters. The beverage shall be made from coffee that is roasted, stored and brewed in a way that achieves the best artisan standards.

Do you know the difference between drinking a specialty coffee and an espresso? The way it is prepared, the filtering method, the tasting ritual? Experience Manager shows you how to make it in our Marabans Lab. Speciality coffee is synonymous with quality, with unique characteristics and the lowest number of defects, a coffee rated with more than 80 points by the SCAE and defined by the best flavours provided by the special microclimates in which it is produced. The objective is to achieve maximum care for the raw material and strict requirements from the origin through the processes to the cup and into the hands of the end consumer. In order to ensure the quality of coffee, traceability and transparency between producers, importers, roasters and consumers, i.e. between countries and markets, are essential.

We present you one of our specialty coffee beans. Finca Pirineos 100% Colombia, caturra variety from the Risaralda region at an altitude of more than 1800 meters by the producer Carlos Andrés Alzate, with a fruity aroma of caramel, wine and sultana and a winey, stone fruit, honey and orange flavour in the mouth. The ways of preparation can be various and very different, it is essential to know the type of bean and the type of grinding for each preparation.

We suggest a cold coffee to give respite to the hot summer afternoons. Cold Brew is the new king of summer and in this post you can find out more about this cold brew coffee.
