EL DÍA A DÍA DE UN DEPORTISTA DE ÉLITE DURANTE LAS SERIES MUNDIALES DE TRIATLÓN

How are you managing these months of WTS2019 competitions?

Mario Mola: When you train, you get used to the pressure, it's very similar to that of a businessman, you have to perform at the end, if you want to do your job as well as possible, and then it's true that here every day is like a "measure", every day you make a mark, and on the day of the competition you have to get results. You train today, thinking about the next training sessions because in the end it is cumulative. It's no use showing off one day and then going three days slowing down, it's something you learn to manage, and experience gives you that.

Nobody gets here at this level from one day to the next. We have all been learning little by little, this is what gives you a bit of peace of mind. It's a stress that you learn to control and in the end, it's not a stress, but it's true that of course, everything you do, you're trying to do everything as well as possible.

Fortunately the races... for example, an 8-race World Championship... well, it's a bit more relaxed than a one-race World Championship, it's different. It is true that it is a very high level of demand for many months, because if, for example: if I had only one race and it was in August, I would be training now, but more relaxed. But in this type of competition you know that in one week you have a race, in four weeks another race... that you distribute this one-day pressure a bit, but it is also an obligation.

Do you go sightseeing in the cities where you compete?

Mario Mola: When it comes to training, the good thing about cycling is that it allows you to see and enjoy the environment. And especially the days before the race or when you travel to a place, the first week you travel, which is a bit more of an adaptation, it's not 100×100 tourism. Likewise when you run, now when we were in Hamburg, while you train you see the city, even if you're running "ha, ha, ha".

And in your daily life, what is your coffee routine?

Mario Mola: Usually in the morning, coffee with milk or Americano, before the last training session or after eating espresso or cortado.

Here is a video in which Mario Mola explains his coffee routine:

"The morning coffee is essential".
