For more than 25 years we have been teaching, promoting and disseminating the art of coffee.
Marabans Academy was created with the aim of providing professional training for both baristas and coffee lovers. We have designed a range of courses based on exclusive and technical training methods that will broaden your knowledge, regardless of whether you are seeking a career in this field or you simply love coffee and would like to practise at home.
Making a great cup of coffee requires a solid knowledge, the right training and ongoing refresher courses to update your know-how.
We have therefore designed two types of courses: Basic level, to improve your skills as a beginner barista and Intermediate level, to improve your knowledge as a barista (5 hours). Advanced level, for professionals in the barista profession (5 hours). Targeting coffee lovers, bartenders, baristas, waiters, coffee shops owners, coffee stores, restaurants, hotels and speciality shops, etc. For the correct assimilation of the content, our Experience Manager contacts the students beforehand to find out level and specific needs of the student, in order to adapt the material for a correct assimilation of the barista course.
Joan Simó, an experienced barista with a SCA (Specialty Coffee Association) qualification and Marabans'Experience Manager, is in charge of delivering the courses at our facilities in Can Picafort (Mallorca).
Below are details of the various training courses we offer. Please select the one that best suits your needs:
The timetables and days of the courses are coordinated in advance by our Experience Manager.
Groups will consist of a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 5 students.
5 hours (from 09:00h. to 14:00h.) in our WorkShop in Marabans / Polígono de Can Picafort - Mallorca.
There is the possibility of holding the course in another location for groups of more than 5 students.
Basic / Intermediate level, to improve your skills as a beginner barista and to improve your knowledge.
(5 hours - Basic / Intermediate level)
- Coffee cultivation and harvesting (theoretical).
- Coffee processes (theoretical).
- Cupping exercises.
- Espresso tasting technique.
- Creating your own recipe.
- Coffee extraction (under-extraction / over-extraction).
- Working with ratios.
- Adjusting the grinder.
- Basic recipes.
- Equipment maintenance.
- Preparation of the barista station
- Correct milk emulsion.
- Initiation to latte-art.
BE Barista Essential
Advanced level, for professionals in the barista profession.
(5 hours - Advanced level)
- Speciality coffee.
- Green coffee and defects.
- Roasted coffee and defects.
- Brewing methods: chemex, V60, aeropress, cold brew.
- Coffee varieties.
- Brazilian cupping (SCA universal protocol).
- Espresso cupping
- Use of the refractometer in filter and espresso.
- Exercises on modifying and understanding the extraction percentage.
- Grinding for filter.
By the end of the course, all students will have acquired an in-depth knowledge of the sector and will be fully trained in the coffee and the art of brewing the perfect cup.
Students who successfully complete the course will receive a Marabans Coffee & Tea diploma, certifying them as experts in the art of making coffee-based drinks.
